Council member scolded
Reading a staff report about the town's
annexation plan, Cary council member Julie Robison was taken aback when
she read that a fellow council member, Michael Joyce, made an appearance
at one of the focus group sessions. Robison was so disturbed by the
revelation that she fired off an e-mail message to her colleague.
"I am appalled to learn that one council member not only
participated, but also addressed the participants in this session when
it was clearly communicated to all council members that we not
participate," Robison wrote in a Feb. 8 e-mail message. "This is a
complete and egregious abomination of professional standards in conduct
of focus group sessions. As the council member who recommended this
process, I am particularly disgusted to see this process deteriorate to
such political maneuvering."
Joyce made opening remarks to one of two groups. He said he was
opening lines of communication with residents who may not have a contact
on the council.
Joyce was concerned by the tone of Robison's e-mail message.
"I was extremely disturbed, for it was indicating that I was
disturbing a process when I was interested in the process," Joyce said.
