Polk County residents deliver signed letter to Columbus Council on Nov 15th
opposing involuntary annexation.
The letter to
Council Members:
|
TO:
Kathleen McMillan
Mark Feagan
Richard Hall
Tommy Melton
Becky Rome
DATE:
November 12, 2005
Thank
you for your participation in the annexation discussion.
We have
been able to state our positions on a number of issues, and have made it
clear that those in the proposed annexed area are strongly opposed to
any vote that approves of this annexation. We do not want or need the
services that are being offered, we use Town services no more than any
other visitors to the area, and most important, we do not appreciate
being forced into a relationship
with the Town of
Columbus.
Others
outside of the proposed annexed area, such as the editor of the
News-Journal and others who have spoken at the Town Meetings, have shown
their support of our position.
In
addition, last Tuesday's election of Margaret Metcalf, Ricky McAllister
and Richard Hall, all of whom have spoken against annexation, and the
defeat of Mark Feagan, who has spoken on behalf of annexation, has shown
that even the residents of the Town of Columbus are not in favor of
forced annexation. Tommy Melton and Richard Hall have also clearly
stated that they understand that people do not appreciate being forced.
This is
a request that all Town Council members and the Mayor vote against
annexation, or table the vote until the new Council is seated.
Signed:
