The May 11th
Annexation Reform Day Lobbying Rally In Raleigh was a Great Success!
But there is
more work to be done before next election!
Thanks
to EVERYONE who came and worked to reach our Legislators with the Citizens
Message for Annexation Reform!
Groups
and Citizens from Asheville, Cabarrus Co, Carrboro, Cary, Fayetteville,
Goldsboro, Kernersville, Orange Co, Wake Co, Wendell, Wilmington &
Winston-Salem came and lobbied Legislators and countered the League
Agenda.
Also in attendance were members of
Citizens for a Sound
Economy, The NC Libertarian Party,
and a visit of support from Andy Lancaster of
Americans For
Prosperity.
Attendance was GOOD (75-100) and the groups got the attention of the
Legislators, the NCLM, and the media.
The goal was to reach every
Legislator with a personal visit from citizens affected by Involuntary
Annexation and to leave with them a packet of information presenting our
side.
Thanks
to the highly motivated citizens who attended and went to work, this goal
was reached.
The deadline for action on most of the Annexation Bills was extended
to June 2nd.
We need to continue to remind the Legislators to take action by emailing
and calling them.
Many Legislators evidently
caved in to pressure from the League of Municipalities. NO Annexation
Reform Bills made it to a Committee Hearing before June 2nd.
There may be a couple of these Bills that survived the "cut-off" date and
could still be heard and acted upon.
Annexation reform needs to
be clearly understood as an issue important to the voters for all
Legislators up for re-election! |

North Carolina: Group rallies against annexation: N.C.
residents want voice in process
May 13th Archive A statewide group urged lawmakers Wednesday
to halt the "extreme takeover" of private property through involuntary
annexation. Called "Stop NC Annexation," the citizens group called on
lawmakers to support pending legislation that would make it more difficult
for towns and cities to annex unincorporated areas.
