FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A rally and citizens
lobbying event; 'Annexation Reform Day'; will be held Wednesday, May 11th, 2005, near the
North Carolina Museum of History and the State Legislative Building.
The purpose of our
rally and citizens lobbying event is to counter and contrast the North
Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM) Town Hall Day
This NCLM Town Hall Day
event is being done in part, to promote the continued use of involuntary
annexation by municipalities. The NCLM collects over 3 Million Tax
Dollars Annually in dues, in part, to lobby against the same
citizens who pay the taxes that support their very existence.
The
League opposes any change to NC Annexation Law. It is widely known that
the NCLM is a powerful lobbying group which influences many Legislators
and Legislative Committee Chairpersons into keep pending legislative
proposals as “Pocket Bills”, which are kept in a Chairpersons “pocket” and
do not get placed before the committee for review. Therefore these bills
“die in committee” and are not able to get to the House and Senate Floors
for true debate and a vote up or down by the full NC House and Senate.
There are currently
NINE Annexation Reform Bills being held up in committee.

bills, go to
