A Grassroots Effort to End forced Annexation Abuse in North Carolina

"We lay it down as a fundamental, that laws, to be just,
must give a reciprocation of right; that, without this, they are mere arbitrary rules of conduct, founded in force, and not in conscience."
--Thomas Jefferson

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A rally and citizens lobbying event; 'Annexation Reform Day'; will be held Wednesday, May 11th, 2005, near the North Carolina Museum of History and the State Legislative Building.

The purpose of our rally and citizens lobbying event is to counter and contrast the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM) Town Hall Day

This NCLM Town Hall Day event is being done in part, to promote the continued use of involuntary annexation by municipalities. The NCLM collects over 3 Million Tax Dollars Annually in dues, in part, to lobby against the same citizens who pay the taxes that support their very existence.

The League opposes any change to NC Annexation Law. It is widely known that the NCLM is a powerful lobbying group which influences many Legislators and Legislative Committee Chairpersons into keep pending legislative proposals as “Pocket Bills”, which are kept in a Chairpersons “pocket” and do not get placed before the committee for review. Therefore these bills “die in committee” and are not able to get to the House and Senate Floors for true debate and a vote up or down by the full NC House and Senate.

There are currently NINE Annexation Reform Bills being held up in committee.

To review the NINE bills, go to www.StopNCAnnexation.com and click on “Latest News”

Because of this influence, StopNCAnnexation has organized citizens and local groups fighting involuntary annexation from around the State to attend this day to offset the NCLM event.
There will people who are going to attend from Winston-Salem, Fayetteville, Goldsboro, Kannapolis, Wendell, Cary, Raleigh, Apex, Asheville, Wilmington, Cabarrus Co, Forsyth Co, Cumberland Co., Wake Co. Chatham Co. Orange Co. Durham Co. and other places from around the State.

The theme of the day is:

“Involuntary Annexation is

EXTREME HOME

TAKEOVER!”

Media information packets will be available beginning at 9AM at and on the day of this event
