December 12, 2003 - Town of Cary Town Council approves annexation proposal.
***
As expected, Cary's Town Council approved by a vote of 6 - 1 the annexation proposal prepared by town planners. Following the welcoming of new Town Council members and Cary's new mayor Ernie McAlister, the Town Council reviewed the staff report prepared for the second agenda item.

A motion was introduced and defeated 4 - 3 prior to the adoption to exclude Area 20, the Dutchman Downs neighborhood.
Approx. 100-150 opponents of the forced annexation protested from 3.30 p.m. until the beginning of the meeting at 6.30 p.m. wearing red and waving a sea of "Stop Cary" signs. The demonstration culminated in the pouring of tea on the steps of the Town Hall and several speeches as well as chants by residents.
A few demonstrators and organizers were also interviewed by the media in attendance (please note that we will try to find as much coverage about this event in local media and post it on our site).
A big "Thank You" goes out to everyone who protested in great spirit for our cause and showed restraint during the Town Council meeting. We anticipated this decision by the Town Council to press forward with the forced annexation and will continue to fight against this effort to involuntarily annex our neighborhoods, and force the towns of Cary and Holly Springs to come to an agreement.
